About the Author
Walter Gautschi spent a postdoctoral year at the National Institute of Applied Calculus in Rome and one at the Harvard Computation Laboratory, after which he worked for three years at the National Bureau of Standards in Washington, D.C., and four years at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. From 1963 to 2000 he was Professor of Mathematics and Computer Science at Purdue University and Professor Emeritus thereafter. In 2001 he was elected Corresponding Member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Foreign Member of the Turin Academy of Sciences. He was named a SIAM Fellow in 2012. Professor Gautschi has held editorial positions on several journals devoted to numerical analysis.
